Using equal parts raw emotion, thoughtful design, and love, Esi Quansah Hutchinson crafts objects that reflect her ever-evolving dialogue with the self. Born in Ghana, Hutchinson moved far and wide during her childhood, living in Suriname,South Africa, and now resides in North Carolina. She graduated in 2020 from the Rhode Island School of Design. During her time at RISD, she grew close to mediums like wood, metal, and fabric, which she incorporated into functional objects like stools, chairs, and containers. During her final design project at RISD Hutchinson further explored with fabric and self-preservation.
Currently, Hutchison is working on her first collection of clothing items, which feature timeless pieces made both of new and upcycled fabrics. Her signature Frock Dresses combine 16th century fashion with lovely colors and comfortable silhouettes.
